Important safety information will be covered at the race briefing, here are some key points:
- There are no special rules or exemptions on the water for this event. Paddlers need to know and obey the normal rules of navigation. In particular we need to be thoughtful to other water users.
- There is no supervision of paddlers once the event has started. Everyone needs to be responsible for their own safety, to know their limitations and have the skill and experience to read the sea conditions. Not every part of the course may be suitable for every paddler or boat type.
- Every paddler must know how to deal with a capsize.
- Any paddler must stop and assist anyone else that is in difficulty, whether they are in the event or not.
- Every paddler must wear an approved buoyancy aid.
- There will be a retrieval boat available to help anyone who needs assistance.
